My Past Week as a Volunteer in Faenza

Ciao a tutti,

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Fiona, I’m 26 years old and I am a volunteer for SEMI Faenza from Ireland.
I arrived in Faenza three weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I settled in and adapted to my surroundings, although there were a few challenges along the way (I don’t want to recall how many times I locked my key into my room), I have quickly learned from my mistakes and have used these as opportunities to improve in the future.

My week started off by creating a post regarding a volunteering opportunity in Romania and posting it on SEMI’s Facebook account for those who may be interested in taking part.

On Tuesday we met with three boys who came from asylum seeker backgrounds and did exercises with them in order to teach them or improve their English. I was happy with how quickly they have adapted to the language.

On Wednesday we did our research and brainstormed for our personal projects and afterwards came up with ideas for our next aperitivi linguistici event. Later in the day I attended my first Italian lesson, which was admittedly quite difficult as I wasn’t familiar with the vocabulary of the topics but the girl I was working with was so helpful and patient and I ended up really enjoying it.

So far it has been a very eventful week and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next few days have to offer. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I will update you soon.
