The situation with covid has affected and keep afecting people from all over the world. Researches has shown big rates of suicides and depression in global. Propably is one of the most difficult period in people’s lives. So what is happening with volunteers abroad?  

From one hand, volunteers have the chance to be at this difficult moment with other people surrounding. This is facinating due to the fact they never can feel lonliness and still they can exchange ideas, food and cultural things, even if it is forbidden to be out or the bars and restaurants are closed. In addition to, volunteers work in the hosting organization, so every day they have a specific target and aim in their lifes. It is really important this, because they feel creative and they have a reson to wake up.  

From the other hand, people can participate in an esc project just 2 times in their lives, to a short term ESC and long term ESC. So might think they are unlucky, because of course during the covid, have lot of restrictions and propably curfews. Volunteers participate in an ESC project because of living abroad and having experiences. However, apart from that, they participate because it is a good chance to travel through the country they are or to another countries next to. This means, now of course they are forbiden to travel, ecven to the same country. In this way, they are not able to live the full ESC experience, to taste good food and good wine, or to meet more people. Also, an important event – in those projects-, is the arival training. In this training participants have the opportunity to go to another city , to stay in 3,4 days in a hotel and meet other volunteers. Unfortunately, now arrival training is not possible and it can take place online. Still you can meet other volunteers, which you are in the same country with them, but for sure it won’t be the same as in person. 

Considering above, it depends on volunteers, how they feel about volunteering in covid time. They can feel like it was a bad choice participating in this period, with all of these restrictions or feel lucky that have the amazing chance to be with people, have work, and explore a little bit at least the city they live. In anyway, ESC experience can be always facinating and volunteers always can find alternative ways to spend their time in covid period.
